How to replace timing chain on Vauxhall/Opel Astra J 1.4i 16V ecoFlex

Camshaft locking tool No. KM-953-A. Camshaft position (CMP) sensor disc setting tool No. EN-49977-100. Crankshaft locking pin No. KM-952. Crankshaft pulley holding tool No. EN-49979. Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle No. KM-956-1. Inlet camshaft adjuster locking tool No. EN-49977-200. Timing chain tensioner locking pin No. KM-955-1. Disconnect battery earth lead. Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine. Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated). DO NOT use special tools listed above to lock engine when slackening sprocket or pulley bolts. Observe tightening torques. If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal. Sump removal. Turn crankshaft until just before TDC mark on No. 1 cylinder. Remove blanking plug from cylinder block. Remove tensioner rail, chain guides and timing chain. Fit timing chain. NOTE: Ensure timing chain is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side. Install tensioner rail and chain guides. Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise until just before TDC on No. 1 cylinder. NOTE: If camshaft locking tool cannot be fitted valve timing is incorrect. Turn crankshaft until just before TDC mark on No. 1 cylinder. Remove blanking plug from cylinder block. Turn inlet camshaft slowly clockwise to compress the timing chain tensioner. NOTE: Camshaft rotation can be prevented using spanner on hexagon. Ensure camshaft position (CMP) sensor disc setting tool abuts cylinder head. Secure camshaft position (CMP) sensor disc setting tool to cylinder head. Tightening torque: 50 Nm + 60`. Tightening torque: 50 Nm + 60`. NOTE: Camshaft rotation can be prevented using spanner on hexagon. ,.


Turn crankshaft to TDC on No. 1 cylinder. Check valve timing. Camshaft locking tool x 2 No. EN-46781. Camshaft sprocket holding tool No. KM-6347. Camshaft sprocket holding tool handle No. KM-956-1. Crankshaft pulley hub holding tool No. KM-662-C. Crankshaft timing pin No. EN-46785. Timing chain tensioner locking pin No. KM-955-1. Disconnect battery earth lead. Remove glow plugs to ease turning engine. Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated). Observe tightening torques. Remove timing chain tensioner, tensioner rail and chain guide. Remove timing chain, crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket as an assembly. Install timing chain, crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket as an assembly. Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt to 150 Nm. Install timing chain tensioner, tensioner rail and chain guide. NOTE: Crankshaft damper hub bolt has LH thread. When replacing camshaft sprocket or crankshaft sprocket ensure writing on the sprocket faces outwards. Remove camshaft housing. Remove camshafts and camshaft gears. Install camshafts and camshaft gears. Finger tighten bolts. Install camshaft housing. Replacement every 60,000 miles or 10 years, whichever occurs first (tensioner pulley and guide pulley must also be replaced). Check condition of crankshaft sprocket. Replacement every 100,000 miles or 10 years, whichever occurs first (tensioner pulley and guide pulley must also be replaced).

Lock auxiliary drive belt tensioner. Use tool No. EN-48952 or No. KM-6130. Auxiliary drive belt. NOTE: Mark direction of rotation on belt with chalk if belt is to be reused. Support engine. RH engine mounting. RH engine mounting bracket. Camshaft position (CMP) sensor. Turn crankshaft to TDC on No. 1 cylinder. Ensure timing marks aligned. Ensure camshaft sprocket aligning hole at 8 o clock position. If not: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise.


Turn tensioner pulley 90В anti-clockwise. Lightly tighten bolt. Remove timing belt. NOTE: Mark direction of rotation on belt with chalk if belt is to be reused. Check tensioner pulley and guide pulley for smooth operation. Fit timing belt in clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets. NOTE: Ensure directional arrows point in direction of rotation. Allow tensioner to tension belt. Tightening torque: 49 Nm. Turn crankshaft 2 turns clockwise to TDC on No. 1 cylinder. If not: Repeat installation procedure. Install components in reverse order of removal. Tightening torque: 20 Nm. NOTE: Observe direction of rotation marks on auxiliary drive belt. NOTE: If battery has been disconnected, re-initialization of window and sunroof motors and steering position sensor may be required. Camshaft locking tool x 2 No. EN-46789. Camshaft sprocket holding tool No. EN-47634. Camshaft sprocket holding tool handle No. EN-956-1. Crankshaft alignment tool No. EN-46788. Flywheel locking tool No. 1. 860. 898. 000. Disconnect battery earth lead. Remove glow plugs to ease turning engine. Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated). Observe tightening torques. If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal. Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other gears. Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing gear(s) removed. How to replace timing gears on Vauxhall/Opel Astra J 2. 0 CDTI Camshaft housing removal. Timing belt removal. Remove timing belt. Remove camshaft housing. Remove timing belt camshaft sprocket. Remove camshaft gears. Install camshaft gears. Finger tighten bolts. Fit new bolts. Tightening torque: 30 Nm + 52`. Install timing belt camshaft sprocket. Install camshaft housing. Install timing belt.
