Ram Trucks was established as its own distinct brand by Chrysler in 2009 when operations of the automaker were taken over by Fiat. Ram-badged trucks have been competing in the American pickup market since 1981, and, before adopting the Ram name, had been sold under the D Series label since 1928. The marque gets its name from the ram head emblem that has been on Dodge vehicles since
the 1930s, and all Ram products still feature Dodge logos inside and out.

Ram Trucks currently offers the Dakota mid-size pickup and the full-size Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, as well as various heavy-duty
chassis cabs.
Chrysler has announced that it will recall roughly 490,000 vehicles around the globe due to a potential active head-restraint problem.

The problem is being blamed on "potentially faulty microcontrollers" that may keep the vehicles' anti-whiplash active safety feature from working properly. Chrysler says it has no knowledge of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

Models covered under the recall include the 2011-2013 Chrysler Sebring, 200 (shown) and Dodge Avenger models, along with 201 First introduced in 2012, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small-overlap frontal crash test has become the bane of many auto engineers' existence. It's a particularly steep design challenge because it forces just 25 percent of a vehicle's front end to take the brunt of a 40-mile-per-hour impact.

The newly released results of four family-minded minivans underscore just how difficult the crash test is: only one scored an Acceptable rating, and the other three did very poorly.
